BENEFITS AFTER SEPARATION
Whether due to retirement or separation, you will have options to continue most District benefits. It is important to act quickly as the timelines are short to elect coverage after separation.
Please make sure when leaving the District your demographic information is up to date, including email address. For demographic changes including name and address changes, please click here to be directed to the Address/Name Change page on the Human Resources site.
If you need to access THEbenefitsHUB to see what your current enrollment and beneficiary designations, please click here and then click on THEbenefitsHUB link under the picture. Please use the log-in you used for enrollment; or follow the instructions on the log-in screen.
Benefit Information When Separating
Your benefits will typically end on the first of the month after your separation date. However, if separating at the end of your contract, you will have the option to continue benefits through your contract, up to August 31. Please speak with Human Resources about these options.
Please keep in mind if moving to another district that offers TRS Health, or retiring and enrolling in TRSCare, TRS does not allow dual coverage. Your medical with BISD must end before your coverage begins with the new district.

Medical
You will receive a COBRA packet from TRS in the middle of the month following your separation. All benefits under COBRA are the same as active employees, but they do not have a district contribution. You have 60 days to elect COBRA medical. You may elect coverage for each person separately (you can elect for your spouse, but not you, etc.), and coverage will be effective on the first of the month following loss of coverage. For questions, please contact bswift for the AC Primary, AC Primary+, AC HD, and AC2 Plans at 833-682-8972.
You will have other options for health insurance at the time of separation. You may consider looking at private coverage directly through a carrier; or take a look at the Health Insurance Marketplace, found at www.healthcare.org. This is the coverage made available through the ACA, and you may even be eligible for a subsidy. More information can be found in this notice.
The Texas Department of Insurance provides guidance on shopping for health insurance. Click here for a video on questions to ask, how to compare plans, and avoiding scams. You may also view their checklist here, or visit their website by clicking here.
