Recognitions

  •  

    BISD track and field student-athletes were recognized for their success. They are: 

    HHS Pole Vault Champion

    Brian Connors, Haltom High School, Pole Vault District Champion.

    RHS Boys Track

    • Richland High School boys track team, District Champions.
    • Richland High School’s 4 x 100 Area Champions: Jaxson Walker, JD Carrasquillo, Aaron Brooks, and Jaylen Gordon who set a new school record of 40.83.
    • Richland High School‘s 4 x 200 Area Champions: Jaxson Walker, Jaylen Gordon, and Rodd Roberts who set a new school record of 126.00.
    • Aaron Brooks, Richland High School, was the Area and Regional Champion in the long jump. He was also a State Qualifier. 

    HHS Boys Soccer

    Recognized Haltom High School boys soccer team as the 2025 8-6A District Champions. This is the team’s first District Championship. They were also the Bi-District Champions, Area Champions, and competed in the Regional Semifinals. Head Coach Frank Cordova was also named Coach of the Year.

    Top-ranking students at Birdville, Haltom and Richland high schools for the Class of 2025 were recognized. Scholars include:  

    BHS Val and Sal

    BHS: Braxton Bui, valedictorian and Lanie Riddle, salutatorian;  

    HHS Val and Sal

    HHS: Raul Guerra, valedictorian and Angelina Nguyen, salutatorian; and  

    RHS Val and Sal

    RHS: Grayson Mann, valedictorian and Kaitlynn Hillman, salutatorian.  

Summary of Actions

  • Administered the oath of office to Place 6 Trustee Ralph Kunkel and Place 7 Trustee Kris Drees. 

    Elected the 2025–26 officers for the Board of Trustees. They are: Ralph Kunkel, president; Brenda Sanders-Wise, vice president; and Joe Tolbert, secretary. 

    Approved the donations from: 

    • Multiple donors to BISD’s Teacher of the Year Gala;
    • IN2 Architecture to Curriculum, Instruction & Accountability. 

    Approved budget amendments. 

Bids/Contracts/Final Payments Awarded

  • Approved the bids/purchases for: 

    • Local retail and grocery–supplemental from multiple vendors.

    Approved the contracts with: 

    • Property Casualty Alliance of Texas for liability, auto, property insurance;
    • Workers’ Compensation Solutions for workers’ compensation insurance;
    • 1 Stone Solutions, a Marsden Company, for staffing services for Facilities Management; and
    • HKS Architects for tenant spaces at the BISD Plaza and Birdville Administrative Complex. 

    Approved the bids/purchases for: (Funds come from Bond 2022 funds) 

    • Bi-directional amplifiers and distribution antenna systems for enhanced first responder radio coverage for Smith Elementary, Mullendore Elementary, Griggs High School, and the Kunkel Specialized Learning Center from BearCom/Motorola Solutions. 

    Approved the resolution extending district depository services contract with Frost Bank. 

    Approved the resolution for self-certification of increased micro-purchase threshold. 

    Approved the construction management at risk amendment with Lee Lewis Construction, Inc. for the courtyard projects for safety fencing for Birdville and Richland high schools. 

    Approved the guaranteed maximum price for drywall replacement at Smithfield Middle School to the Lee Lewis Construction, Inc. 

Future Board Meeting

  • Thursday, June 26, 2025, Regular Board Meeting, open session at 7 p.m., Boardroom. 

  • THE BOARD MET IN SPECIAL SESSION on May 8 and took the following actions: 

    Approved the change order to Lee Lewis Construction, Inc. for the fire alarm system at the Clothes Connection located at the BISD Plaza. 

    Approved the change order No. 1 to Lee Lewis Construction, Inc. for building one at the Birdville Administrative Complex.
