#BISDNumbersMatter
The census is much more than just a head count. It provides a picture of our nation that helps determine where to build new schools, hospitals, and businesses; how federal funding is distributed; and how congressional seats are apportioned. It also helps us see how our communities have changed over time. That’s why an accurate count is so important.

How the 2020 Census Affects BISD Students
The 2020 Census count impacts the federal funds that communities receive each year for programs and services that are critical for schools, students, and younger children, such as:
- Special education grants;
- Title I grants;
- After-school programs;
- Classroom technology;
- Food assistance, including free- and reduced-price school lunches; and
- Maternal and child health programs.
The outcome of our community's census accounts for approximately $40.2 million each year of federal funding allocated to programs serving Birdville ISD students.

Easy and Convenient
In 2020, for the first time ever, the U.S. Census Bureau will accept responses online, but you can still respond by phone or mail if you prefer. Individual responses to the census are securely collected and not shared with the public or federal agencies for 72 years. To make sure you and the rest of BISD are counted, learn more about the 2020 Census by visiting the Census 2020 website: www.2020census.gov.
