March 14, 2020 | 6:15 p.m. | Coronavirus (COVID-19): How Birdville Can Help
Message from Mark Thomas, Communications Officer
March 14, 2020
We would like you to be aware of the resources available to you should you begin to feel ill. Rather than visiting a medical facility, it is recommended to use telehealth benefits as a first option to seek medical care for symptoms of general illness. The District provides all benefit-eligible employees a telehealth benefit through MDLive at no cost for you and your enrolled family members. Information for MDLive is attached.
In addition, if you are a TRS-ActiveCare participant, TRS is also providing the following telehealth benefits and resources [see information below]. Should you have any questions about these or any other benefits, please don’t hesitate to contact Susan Dippolito in the Benefits office via email at susan.dippolito@birdvilleschools.net.

March 14, 2020 | 3:30 p.m. | KRONOS and Timesheets
Message from Mark Thomas, Communications Officer
March 14, 2020
KRONOS USERS:
We have received many questions about Kronos timesheet submissions and want to ensure you that the Payroll Department is working diligently to get the upcoming payrolls processed in keeping with the normal pay period schedule. All timesheets through 3/8/2020 will be pushed through the system by payroll staff for payment. We ask for your patience as we focus on getting the March payroll processed according to our regular schedule.
KRONOS & PROFESSIONAL TIMESHEET USERS:If you have any current timesheets that need to be submitted and approved by your supervisor, we ask you go ahead and submit them now for approval and processing. Any timesheets not submitted and approved, will be processed by payroll. Nothing else will be needed from staff or supervisors at this time.
Should there be issues as a result of the way timesheets are processed, adjustments will be made on future payrolls. Please contact your supervisor with questions or concerns. Your supervisor will submit them to Rita Morrow via email for research and correction as needed.
PAYROLL FOR APRIL & BEYOND:For paychecks after March 2020, Administration plans to recommend payment for all full- and half-time employees during the District closure. Full-time and half-time refer to employees whose annual pay is spread over twelve months and are eligible for employee benefits. The payments will be based on their regularly scheduled hours (guaranteed hours for bus drivers and monitors).
We ask that you continue to monitor the District website and your email for further information. Please don’t hesitate to contact Sharay Boynton or Rita Morrow via email with payroll questions. Email responses will occur as soon as possible.
Please note that all Birdville ISD offices will be closed during this time. While some critical staff will be in the office intermittently, all offices will be closed to visitors.

March 13, 2020 | 11:45 a.m. | BISD closed until March 27
This morning, Tarrant County Public Health Department recommended a two-week closure of all schools in Tarrant County to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. After collaborating with state and county health officials and other education leaders this morning, Superintendent Dr. Darrell Brown announced that Birdville ISD will be closed March 16–27, along with the cancelation of all extracurricular activities and school events during the same period. We will continue to evaluate the situation throughout this closure before making any other long-term announcements.
The health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority. The goals of this announced closure are to help prevent the spread of disease and to give our staff additional time to plan for continuity of services should it become necessary for public schools to close for a longer period. We ask each of you to do your part to help prevent the spread of disease by limiting your attendance at social gatherings and large public events. Wash your hands regularly and isolate yourself if you begin experiencing symptoms like fever, coughing or shortness of breath. Information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Tarrant County Health Department is available on our website. The cancellation of mass gathering events can dramatically help flatten the curve for the spread of the coronavirus disease.
We acknowledge that an unexpected school closure creates a hardship on our parents and staff because of work, childcare and other considerations. But we hope you know our efforts coming to this decision have been done with the best interests of everyone involved. We also know and understand that many students rely on our schools for meals and support. To that end, we are exploring options on how we may assist during this time. Please continue to check our website for further updates.
Some BISD employees may need to be available to work when requested during this closure. For those asked to come to work, appropriate safety precautions will be taken. We will communicate directly with staff members regarding their specific roles and responsibilities in our prevention planning.
Information still to come from the Texas Education Agency includes guidance for course credit, compulsory attendance, accountability standards and school funding. The Superintendents and district leaders in North Texas eagerly await guidance on the waiver process and other steps to support the continued education of our students for the rest of the 2019–2020 school year.
