Welcome to BISD Visual Arts
BISD offers instruction in visual art at all levels. Elementary schools are serviced by a team of art educational aides that travel to each campus on a rotational basis providing approximately 10 art lessons a year to grades K-5. Each middle and high school is staffed with one or more full-time art specialists. Curriculum includes the study of the elements of art (line, value, texture, color, form, and space) as well as the principles of art (unity, emphasis, balance, variety, movement, and proportion) through designing and creating original artworks. Various media utilized are drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and digital media. Students study the artworks of contemporary and past artists as well as their fellow students. Birdville artists have a number of opportunities to display their artworks and enter contests such as their campus show, district show, VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event), Jr VASE, and various community events.
High School Artists Receive State Honors
Congratulations to the 39 high school artists from BISD that traveled to San Antonio to compete in this year's State VASE competition. These students' 49 artworks advanced from the regional event with most receiving the highest rating possible from state adjudicators. HS Artists Bound for State!
Congratulations to BISD high school artists who recently competed at the Regional VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event). BISD not only had the most entries of any school district participating but also took home the most awards our high schools have ever received! The highest honor a student’s artwork can gain at region is its advancement to the state-level competition. BISD is thrilled to have 40 artists representing 49 artworks travel to San Antonio in April to compete in state VASE.
