• State-Mandated Student Screenings

    Wednesday September 25:

    Scoliosis

Scoliosis (spinal) screenings will take place for 7th grade GIRLS and 8th grade BOYS during their science class period.

Girls must wear pants or shorts and a sports bra or swimsuit top under their shirt.

    Thursday September 26:

    Hearing and Vision

All 7th graders will be screened during their social studies class. Students need to wear their eyeglasses if they have them.

    Acanthosis Nigricans

Students will be screened for acanthosis nigricans (AN), which is one of the signs of insulin resistance (IR). IR may develop into type 2 diabetes, so early detection of IR in children may allow us time to intervene well before the development of type 2 diabetes. If your student tests positive for AN, then we will gather blood pressure and body mass index data.

Students who do not pass any of the screenings will be rescreened after 2 weeks, and if potential problems are detected, parents will be notified via telephone/email and a referral will be sent home.
