• Welcome to the Library!

     W. A. Porter Elementary School

    Mary Chapman

"Today a reader, tomorrow a leader." ~Margaret Fuller

I am thrilled to be part of the Porter team of educators! I have been in public education for 14 years. I taught second grade for the first 10 years and have been a librarian ever since. I'm a proud graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas (Go Pirates!), completed graduate school at Scarritt and Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee and took my Library Science coursework at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. I love a good story and I love to explore and learn, so being a librarian is the perfect job for me!

As the W.A. Porter librarian, I work to provide opportunities for students to explore their world in many different ways. In the library, our students learn how to find and use information that will help them be successful as they progress. This supports the vision of Texas School Libraries that states that students should attain knowledge and skills to become accomplished readers, independent learners, critical thinkers, creative problem solvers and informed citizens.

The library not only gives students a place to learn and practice essential skills, it also gives them a place to find joy. Reading for pleasure is a crucial component of becoming a life long reader. Here at W.A. Porter Library, we provide a wide variety of resources and activities, so that everyone can find a book they love!

It is an honor to help teach your children,

    Ms. Chapman
