Helping Your Student be a Successful Learner

    Using Personalized Learning Online

Engaging in an online platform for learning is a big change, and Birdville ISD understands this can be a stressful time for everyone. The District wants to give students and their families the tools they need to be successful.

    • Set a fixed time for your child to do Personalized Learning Online
While these studies are independent, developing a structured plan and consistent time each day will set up a healthy routine. A daily routine provides comfort through uncertain times.

Break the day into chunks that include times for learning, personal breaks, and fun activities.

    • Do not rush through the school work
Take time and practice patience, just like they would at school!

    • Focus on big goals and forget the small stuff!
Setting daily goals can help students stay calm. Take time to plan what needs to be done and set daily goals.

Try to regulate any feelings of stress and anxiety.  When parents are calm, their child(ren) will most likely be calm as well. Resources on self-regulation are available through  BISD’s Counseling Services Department.

    • Communication
Talk about how the days will be organized, what the expectation is, and let them be a part of organizing their day. If they are included, they are more likely to cooperate.

    • Allow time for questions
Just because the lesson is offered over a computer doesn’t mean they don’t have the right to ask a question if they don’t understand. Questions are always welcomed and encouraged. Learning and success is still important to us!

Please keep in mind that kids are struggling during this time and may not fully understand the seriousness of the situation or how to verbalize how they are feeling. Once again, BISD’s counselors are here to help.
