I am so excited about my 7th year as the librarian at Stowe Elementary School.
I taught English to 7th and 8th graders in H.E.B. ISD for 8 years prior to coming to Stowe Elementary. I earned my Masters degree in Library Science from the University of North Texas, and I also have a Masters in Teaching degree from Texas Woman's University and a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from UNT. I really loved going to college and graduate school in Denton!
I have always adored books and reading, and especially love meeting authors of my favorite books. I remember meeting Bill Wallace in 5th grade and being mezmorized as he talked about getting the book deal for A Dog Called Kitty and his new book, Beauty. (My favorite by him was always Ferrets in the Bedroom, Lizards in the Fridge.)
In the past years, I have also had the ability to see many more authors speak and have met Mo Willems, Peter Brown, Neil Gaiman, Kwame Alexander, Kadir Nelson, and Lois Lowry, just to name a few. One of my favorite groups of authors to meet has got to be when I saw Raina Telgemeier (Smile, Ghosts, etc.), Molly Knox Ostertag (The Witch Boy series), and Gale Galligan (Baby Sitters Club) all at the same time!
This year, for the first time since I have been a librarian, we will have a very special author's visit for our students. I hope it creates the same wonder for them as it did for me so many years ago.
I hope to pass my love of literature and reading on to the students here at Stowe.
