Recognitions
The BISD Board of Trustees was recognized for its leadership and commitment to the students of the District.
Officer Carl Cage, Haltom High School’s School Resource Officer (SRO), was recognized for being named Haltom City’s 2021 Officer of the Year.
BISD’s Purchasing Department was recognized for receiving the 2022 Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations by the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO). Only 58 of more than 1,110 districts met the stringent criteria to qualify for this year’s award.

These policies are related to the District’s ongoing training for teachers with students with dyslexia and ensure that a student transitioning from Early Childhood Intervention has an IEP developed and implemented by the child’s third birthday.

Top-ranking students at Birdville, Haltom and Richland high schools for the Class of 2022 were recognized. Jacob C. Cohen, Birdville High School senior, was recognized as a National Merit Finalist.
Six seniors were recognized as commended scholars in the National Merit Scholarship Program. They are: Barrett Clark, Birdville High School; Hailey Tucker and Hannah Walker, Haltom High School; and Jakob Harrigan, Sloane Tolbert and Casey Biggs, Richland High School.
Three juniors were recognized as National Hispanic Scholars. They are: Kathleen Paz, Roman Rodriguez and Mia Sorola, Richland High School.

Partner in Education
The Theta Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma has partnered with BISD to provide suitcases full of essentials for our graduating seniors who are experiencing homelessness. This is the second year in a row that Delta Kappa Gamma has done a suitcase project for our homeless teens. They have also donated many gift cards to support the needs of homeless families in BISD. Delta Kappa Gamma members recognized were: Janet Scott, Dr. Suzie McNeese, Suzanne Nickel, Lynda Hamilton, Susan Hittle and Susan Walker.

Partners in Education

Approved revisions to Board Policy DC (LOCAL) Employment Practices. This change delegates final authority to the superintendent to employ contractual personnel in positions below the level of principal from May 1 to August 31 each year. The Board retains final authority over the employment of all contractual personnel at the level of principal and above.
Approved the revised District Innovation Plan (DOI) for school years 2022–27.

Student Recognitions
Joeliz Cruz-Ramos, Birdville High School senior, was recognized for placing second in the Teacher Created Materials competition at the annual Educators Rising National Conference.
Zane Sheffield, Birdville High School junior, was recognized for being named a State Board of Education (SBOE) 2022 Student Heroes Award recipient for SBOE District 11. He is one of only 15 students selected statewide for the acts of kindness, charity and service he offers others.

Approved revisions to Board Policy CDA (LOCAL) Other Revenue: Investments. This change updates the job titles of the current investment officers.
Approved revisions to Board Policy EIA (LOCAL) Academic Achievement: Grading/Progress Reports to Parents. This change removes references to six-week grading periods since the District has moved to nine-week grading periods beginning with the 2022–23 school year.
Approved the Denton Highway property reimbursement resolution.
Adopted the resolution authorizing the extension of available COVID-19 leave until June 30, 2023 for all staff.
Approved the action regarding the District security system, security infrastructure, and/or security personnel.
Approved the 2022–23 ad valorem tax rate of $1.2798 per $100 valuation. The maintenance and operations (M&O) portion of the tax rate is $0.8659 per $100 valuation, a 5.82 cent decrease over the 2021–22 M&O tax rate. The portion to pay the debt service (I&S) is $0.4139. The M&O tax rate is $0.0582 less than 2021–22, and the I&S rate is unchanged.
Adopted a resolution calling for prepayment of a portion of the Birdville ISD Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds, Series 2019. This prepayment will save taxpayers more than $5.94 million in interest payments. Since 2014, the Board has approved prepayments of $21.44 million of bond principal saving taxpayers more than $14.2 million in interest payments.
Approved the changes in the dates of the BISD Board of Trustees meetings in November and December 2022. The November and December meetings fall during holiday periods. The changes are: Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.

Partners in Education Recognition
