Financial Leader Katie Bowman Announces Retirement After 18 Years in BISD, 27 Years in Public Education

After 27 years of dedicated service in public education, Associate Superintendent of Finance and Auxiliary Services Katie Bowman has announced her retirement. Bowman is entering her 18th year of service in Birdville ISD, and she will continue in her current role until her retirement, effective December 31.

Bowman has played an integral role in ensuring BISD’s long-term financial stability, providing sound fiscal leadership that has supported students, staff and the community for two decades. Throughout her career in Birdville ISD, she has helped guide the district through complex financial planning, budgeting, bond initiatives and operational decisions while maintaining a steadfast commitment to responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources.

"Katie's impact on Birdville ISD extends far beyond accounting and finance," said Dr. Gayle Stinson, Superintendent of Schools. “Her expertise and thoughtful leadership have helped position BISD for long-term success. She has earned the trust of our Board, our staff and our community by making decisions that always put students first while being an exceptional steward of public funds. We are deeply grateful for her service and the lasting legacy she leaves in Birdville ISD. Katie is family."

Bowman has served in her current role for the past 11 years, and prior to that, was the Director of Business from 2013-2015. Before joining Birdville ISD, she also served as Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations in Midlothian ISD, and as Financial Director of District Bond Programs and Associate Superintendent for Business and Finance at Mansfield ISD. She began her career in public education as Business Manager in Goose Creek ISD. Prior to joining public education, she served in various accountant positions.

A licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Texas, Bowman earned her bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce and her master's degree from The University of Texas at Arlington.

Bowman says she is looking forward to spending more time with her family, especially her four grandchildren. Upon her retirement, her successor will be Dr. Missy Glenn, who currently serves as the Executive Director of Finance and Student Auxiliary Services.

Birdville ISD extends its sincere appreciation to Bowman for her outstanding service, leadership, and lasting contributions to the district and wishes her the very best in her retirement.
