A crystal gavel was placed in Dolores Webb’s hands Thursday evening – a fitting symbol for a woman who has spent more than 50 years learning and leading in Birdville ISD.

Presented by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gayle Stinson, the gavel marked a moment decades in the making. Webb was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1990 and served until her retirement in 2017, including six terms as Board President. During that time, she helped guide Birdville ISD through tremendous growth and change.

Now, her name will have a permanent place in the district she helped shape. BISD dedicated its new boardroom in Webb’s honor on August 27, celebrating a legacy that began long before she ever took a seat at the Board table. 

“Dolores Webb’s impact on Birdville ISD cannot be measured simply by the number of years she served,” said Brenda Sanders-Wise, BISD Board President. “She devoted her career and life to education, and her leadership helped guide Birdville ISD through decades of growth and change. Naming the board room in her honor is a fitting tribute to someone whose dedication to this district has been extraordinary.”

Webb’s connection to Birdville ISD began as a student. Born and raised in Fort Worth, she attended BISD schools and graduated from Richland High School in 1964. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of North Texas (then North Texas State University) in 1967 and a master’s degree in Public School Administration in 1980.

She returned to Birdville ISD as an educator, spending 18 years as a teacher and campus administrator before leaving education in 1987. She later became an agent for State Farm Insurance in North Richland Hills before returning to public education leadership when she was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1990.

For nearly three decades, Webb contributed to key decisions that shaped the district’s future. She was there through years of growth and change, always keeping students, teachers and the community at the center of her work. And when her time on the Board ended, her commitment to Birdville ISD did not. She continues serving the district through bond committees and other efforts benefiting the community.

“Dolores Webb understands that leadership is ultimately about people – students, families, educators and the community we are privileged to serve,” Stinson said. “As a trustee, Mrs. Webb helped create a district where people could grow, contribute, and know that they belonged. The boardroom now carries her name, but her greatest legacy lives in the people she encouraged, the students she championed, and the Birdville community for which she cares so deeply. We are grateful for all she has given to this district and we are proud to honor her in this way.”

Webb is a 1995 graduate of the Leadership Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) and holds the designation of Master Trustee. She has also been active in the Northeast Tarrant Chamber and Northeast Richland Lions Club.

A longtime resident of Tarrant County, Webb and her late husband, Roger, were married in 1966. Roger was a teacher at Haltom High School, and together, they have three daughters and seven grandchildren.

For years, Webb held a gavel as she helped guide Birdville ISD. On Thursday, she struck her new crystal gavel one last time in the boardroom that now carries her name – leaving a legacy of heartfelt leadership that is forever etched into the history of the district she has spent a lifetime serving.
