  • Vacation
Employees assigned to a 12-month schedule (defined as July 1st to June 30th employment cycle) are provided additional vacation days as an opportunity for time off during the course of employment. The rate of accrual is based upon hire date and eligible position.

  • State and Local Leave
Upon hire, all employees are provided up to 5 state and 5 local leave days, prorated based on start date.

  • Teacher’s Retirement System (TRS)
All District employees employed on a regular basis for at least four and one-half months are members of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS). Members contribute 8.0% of eligible compensation to the pension system and .65% to the TRS-Care fund (retiree health insurance).

  • Social Security and Medicare
The District and district employees do not contribute to the Social Security program. Therefore, years of Birdville ISD service and earnings will not be included on your Social Security statement. However, employees are required to contribute 1.45% of eligible compensation to Medicare.

  • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance
Group health insurance is available to all employees working at least 10 hours per week. Those who are regularly scheduled for 20 hours or more per week are eligible for the district's contribution. Employees working at least 10 hours per week, but less than 20, are eligible to elect medical coverage but are not eligible for the district's contribution and therefore, pay the full premium.

Dental and vision coverage is also provided at the employee's option and cost.

  • Telehealth
The District provides a Telehealth benefit at no cost to eligible employees. The purpose of the program is to assure that employees and their families receive convenient medical attention for common issues such as a cold, rash, allergies, etc.

  • Employee Assistance (EAP)
The District provides an Employee Assistance Program at no cost to eligible employees. The program is in place to assure that employees and their families have access to receive help to resolve personal problems in an effective and confidential manner.

  • Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)
The District provides all eligible employees with a $10,000 life insurance policy at no cost to the employee. Additional life insurance and AD&D policies are available at the employees' cost at reduced group rates. An employee may choose coverage for themselves and their dependents.

  • Health Savings Accounts (HSA), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), and Dependent Care Accounts (DCA)
Eligible employees may choose to direct payroll contributions on a pre-tax basis to an HSA or FSA, and DCA,  therefore saving taxes on eligible health and dependent care related expenses.

Made in Birdville ISD

Hannah Youngblood

"BISD helped shape who I am today. Teachers like Mr. Sizemore, Mrs. Breitinger, and Mrs. Donahue gave not only knowledge but also dedication. My time as a Haltom Highstepper with Ms. Boyd and Ms. Krause taught me invaluable skills that I now pass on to my own students and cheerleaders. The Youngbloods are truly BISD strong—my dad, a proud "Mr. Haltom" of 1974, and my mom, a Richland High graduate and 28-year district teacher. We hold the district’s values close."
