    The theme is: well-hydrated, well-rested and well-nourished!

     

    BISD has heat guidelines for both athletics and band. We have a chart we follow that is based on the actual air temperature and the heat index. When the temp. or humidity reaches a certain point we must modify our practices and if the heat continues to rise we must cancel practices. Our number one concern is the safety of all our athletes and coaches. At practices water will be available whenever an athlete needs a drink. We will have several water breaks scheduled but most importantly kids must know they can get a drink anytime they need one. The key is to not get dehydrated. Once a kid feels thirsty at practice dehydration has already begun. They need to stay hydrated throughout the day by drinking plenty of water. This will be especially important once school begins for our 8th graders who will be practicing after school. Also make sure they are not drinking any sodas.
    Sodas and energy drinks do not mix well with heat.
