• Clinic Guidelines

The clinic is here to serve the student as effectively and efficiently as possible. However, due to the size and health needs of the school, some simple guidelines must be followed in order to serve students with the best possible care.
    • Students should report to class prior to coming to the clinic and obtain a Clinic Referral from the teacher. (Not required for emergency.)
    • Students are encouraged not to call parents/ guardians from classroom prior to coming to the clinic. The nurse will assess the student's needs and notify parents/guardians by phone when an early dismissal from school is appropriate and/or when the nurse feels a medical referral is required.
    • Students who have a history of illness should make prior arrangements for their needs. Individual health care plans, and individualized assistance are priorities for all chronically ill students.
    • Smithfield Middle is much like a small community, and we are here to assist you in anyway we can, but we must be notified of chronic problems, allergies, inhalers, medications, and the history of past illness that may impact your child while here at school. PLEASE CONTACT THE NURSE to report any health conditions/concerns.
    • The following treatments will be used in the clinic to manage minor first aid at SCHOOL ONLY:
               Triple Antibiotic ointment
               Hydrocortisone cream
               First aid/burn cream
               Oral anesthetic
               Petroleum jelly
