• ABC's of Third Grade

     A A
Learning and fun take place everyday!
Please make sure your child comes to school
    everyday on time,
except in cases of illness or emergency.
       Box Tops
    Our school is collecting
    “Box Tops for Education.”
Each label is worth 10 cents…it adds up fast!
Please cut out and trim each box top and put in baggie with your child's name on it.
Get grandparents, aunts, uncles, everyone to help collect them!

     C C
Communication between home and school is very important for your third grader.  Feel free to contact the school or send a note with your child.

I will be contacting you throughout the school year for parent/teacher conferences via phone or sending home a note.
     D D

School ends at 3:25 pm on full school days and at 12:20 pm on early release days.

If your child is to go home a different way than his or her normal manner

you must send a written note.

     E   E
The school may need to contact you in case of an emergency.  If your phone number
or address changes, please notify the school.  Please make sure that the office and
have additional phone numbers in case you cannot be reached. This is very important.
    F Family

The students and I spend a lot of time together and consider one another part of our “school family.”  Please encourage your child to tell you something about their day at school.

     Field Trips

Occasionally we will go on a field trip.  The permission slip must be signed and returned for your child to go.
     G G
Your child will recieve a progress report every three weeks, and report cards
every six weeks. Please remember that every page is not graded and grades
are taken from other sources than just paper tests. You may view grades on
Skyward, get a code from the office.
     H H

Your child will have Reading and Math fact practice homework every night.

Homework is reinforcement of skills learned in class.  Your child should be

reading at least 20 min. every night.

     I I
     Important Papers

Important notices will be sent home periodically.  Please check your child’s homework folder for important papers every night.

     J J
    Job Well Done
Students should work towards good behavior and work happens every day. CORE Citizens will be recognized daily in the classroom and one overall each six weeks.
    K K

I have a “0 Tolerance” rule for unkind behavior.  This includes actions and words.

Kindness is expected out of everyone.

     L L
Lunch is from 12:05-12:30.  Every child will need to learn   their own lunch account number. Please help your child   learn this quickly. Notices will be sent home when they   need more money in their account.
     M M

If you are sending money to school, please put it in an envelope and have

it labeled.  Often times a student comes to school with money and does

not remember why they have it.

     N N
It is important for 3rd Graders to become more aware of the world around them.
Watching the local and national news weekly is a good way to start family
discussion about what is going on in the world around us.
     O O

Good organizational habits begin to form in third grade.  To help keep your child organized through the year they will be responsible for bringing homework to school every day…NO excuses!

     P P
Just like any other thing you expect to be good at, the skills learned in
school need to be practiced.  Please provide time at home after school
for your child to practice their math facts and reading.
     Q Q
    Questions or Concerns

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

You may call and leave a message at any time and I will get back to you as

quickly as I can, or you can send a note and I will reply as soon as possible.

    R R

We will be doing lots of reading in 3rd grade.  Please allow time for your child to read to you. Read books to them that are more advanced than their reading level.  Share with them your love for reading.

     S S
Spelling will be taught in patterns. You will not have an
exact list of words each week. Spelling is a skill that needs to be applied in every aspect of life. Words will
    be on website, Spelling City.
     T T
Talking to friends about feelings and ideas is an important part of learning.
There are, however, appropriate and inappropriate times to talk.  I understand
that breaking rules about talking may seem less important than others, but I encourage you to support me in the enforcement of this rule, because it does affect your child's learning as well as other children.
    U U
I believe that each child has unique learning differences; therefore I will be providing instruction to your child that may be different than his or her peers.
If you would like to volunteer in the school please fill out the form on-line at www.birdvilleschools.net  follow the links under parents.
If you would like to chaperone a field trip you must fill out the form and be an approved volunteer.
     W W

Reading and writing are closely linked.  This year
your child will be writing both expository essays
and narrative stories.  We will be learning the correct uses of capitalization, usage, punctuation, and spelling as well.
