Randy Sumrall joined Birdville ISD in February 2012, having served as chief information officer of ESC Region 10 prior to coming to the District. He has 28 years of experience in education which includes six years at Region 10, two years as chief technology officer at Judson ISD in San Antonio, and 12 years as executive director of technology in Coppell ISD. Before moving into educational technology, he was a band director in Lake Dallas and Dallas schools. He still participates in music and performs regularly.

Sumrall received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from North Texas State University in 1982 and a Master of Education in Educational Administration in 1992 from UNT. He completed his post-graduate work earning his superintendent certification in 2005. He also holds certification in mid-management, music, technology, and driver education.
